2024 Newport RI Lloyds 20-year Special Surveys completed and recertified including full audio gauge of hull and complete survey of mast and rigging to full satisfaction and resulting in Lloyds Class compliance. All through hulls, rudder, steering system valves, removed and inspected. Prop and shaft removed and inspected. Bow thruster removed and inspected.
Since April 2024, RANGER has been hauled out in Bridgeport CT within a fully protected tent, dehumidified and periodically monitored by her crew. Mast and boom are wrapped and stored alongside as are the yacht’s storage containers.
2019/2020 Major Restoration and Refit:
The current owner purchased RANGER in October 2018 and immediately sailed for Zaandam, Holland to prepare for a comprehensive restoration and refit of the entire yacht and systems. The goal was to make significant improvements to RANGER’s overall cosmetics, her deck layout and to modernize systems to increase her performance potential and render a more cruising comfortable yacht for her new owner and family. Vitter’s Shipyard in Holland was selected for the 16-month refit with Greg Sloat managing the effort and all work was done with Lloyds class approval.
2019/2020 Comprehensive Refit:
- Removal of all hull coatings to bare metal, surveying and treating and suspect areas and thereafter re-fairing and full Awlgrip repainting in Matterhorn White.
- Removal of existing teak decks, treating and prepping steel and aluminum subdeck, removal of existing pedestals, cockpit base structure, forepeak hatch and dorade boxes and re-installing new 12mm vacuum installed teak decks.
- Installation of 2 x new Custom Lewmar SS primary winches and service of all winches.
- Removal of existing pedestal controls, helm station instrumentation and compass and installation of new telegraph style engine controls, navigation monitor & wind instrumentation, and new helm gyro compass.
- Design and Installation of new guest cockpit to discretely house hydrostatic life rafts and allow for 8 guests to recline and dine of comfort and safety.
- Installation of new flush forepeak main hatch.
- Installation of 4 new deck prisms, new mast blocks and general improvement of leads, tracks and overall deck hardware.
- A significant noticeable improvement was the redesign of the carbon composite “doghouse” to allow better seating and addition of 5 windows facing aft and 2 portlights facing forward. The existing fire suppression system was replaced and moved as well as all wiring and nav systems resulting in an elegant, protected interior viewing and seating area.
- The entire engine room tech area was gutted to the hull sides and structure, cleaned and painted. All existing batteries were removed and replaced with more efficient battery systems, and this area was lowered to allow 7 foot plus headroom in the central engine room tunnel.
- 2 X 40 kW Northern Light generators were brought to “0” hours and reconditioned to new condition. Both generators had PTOs added for powering the upgraded hydraulic system.
- The Lugger 425 hp main diesel was also “0” hour-ed and reconditioned and has 2 x PTO’s powering the renewed hydraulic system.
- The Hydraulic system was completely renewed and vastly expanded to offer tailored power to sailing systems.
- Most systems in the engine room as needed were replaced with new ones and are listed herein.
- The Galley was revamped, and all appliances were replaced with commercial grade units. Existing SS refrigeration and Freezer boxes in the galley and below in the tank deck were all serviced with new compressors.
